Tuesday, August 19, 2008 - Inflation at the Wholesale Level: Prices at the wholesale level rose to a 27-year high in July. The annual Producer Price Index for finished goods rose 9.8% in July; that’s the fastest rate of increase since June 1981. PPI rose 1.2% in July, following a 1.8% rise in June. The core PPI number – which excludes volatile food and energy prices – rose by 0.7% for the month, and 3.5% on a year-over-year basis.
